Style Hero

As I said in the previous post, Leigh Lezark is my style hero. She adheres to the aesthetics that I so love (clean lines and uncomplicated elegance) and is completely unapologetic about the lack of colour the infiltrates her wardrobe. Above are only a few of her outfits that I most covet, the all black creations are particularly lusted after. I've read many criticisms of Leigh, she is overrated, her outfit choices are monotonous etc, but one of the things I most love about her style is that she is completely attuned to what suits her. Her style is not influenced by the latest trends, but evolves from experimentation with fabric, texture and structure. Best of all she wears her clothes with such confidence and aloofness it is impossible not to be impressed by her self assurance in her own style.

Annual Fool

Here are my favourite outfits from the New Yorkers for Children's Annual Fool's Fête held Wednesday night. As usual Diane Kruger (middle right) looks gorgeous in Marchesa, but I most want to raid Leigh Lezark's (top right) wardrobe. She is my style hero and I only love her more for refusing to smile. She maybe an ice queen, but she wears it well.

Blame the Cream

I thought these photos taken by Henrik Svensson are so beautiful and devastatingly lonely that I just had to share them. Enjoy.

Big F@#* Off Diamond

Irish jewellery designer Tom Binns is truly genius, his faux-gem creations are unique, intricate and devastatingly beautiful works of art. From Vivenne Westwood beginnings, his collections have been infused with punk mentality ever since. The combination of vintage pearls, Swarovski crystals and repurposed antique jewels mixed with skulls, safety pins, crucifixes and sea glass create irreverent and achingly edgy pieces. Having said all that, his opinions regarding appropriation in the fashion industry leave me a little disappointed. I understand his frustration when his ideas are copied, however copying designs - or simply being influenced - seems like a natural cycle. The fact that people can buy beautiful clothes, be it couture or chainstore, is an argument for the flexibility and success of fashion, not an argument for exclusivity.

New Buys

It was a lovely warm day yesterday so my newly engaged friend Amanda and I headed into the city for some shopping. I was on the look out for some heels (see previous post) and a lovely dress for my birthday (I turn 22 in a few weeks, I'm just a bit excited). Though I didn't come across any colbalt blue platforms I did find these Zoe Wittner silver and black platforms. Though they are a birthday present from my family and technically not a new buy, they are so pretty and oh so deadly they deserve their own post.

All Things Juli Grbac

Juli Grbac's, winner of Australia's Project Runway in 2008, designs aren't exactly revolutionary and certainly tread well worn ground, but they are beautiful. Her collection is full of clean lines, delicate fabrics and feminine embellishments. The pale colours and effortless elegance and romance reminds me of French rom-com, all style and no substance (by the way this isn't a bad thing). Lovely.

Emma Cook Ready-to-Wear 09

I'm afraid I only become aware of designer Emma Cook after her Topshop capsule line in 2008, despite this I have fallen head over heels for her gorgeous, vintage inspired creations. The photos above are from her ready-to-wear Spring 2009 collection and are only a tiny example of the gorgeous fabrics, prints and handcrafted details used.

Givenchy Ready-to-Wear 09

I've become quite a bit obsessed with shoes, heels in particular. Having bought my first pair in five or so months (a lot of flats were bought in the mean time) only last week, all I can think about is purchasing a new pair. A platform heel in cobalt blue perhaps, or maybe a sleek black leather ankle boot? I can't decide. Either way if I could quadruple my income and suddenly come into a truck load of moolah, I would spend every cent on the above Givenchy Fall 09 heels. I love studs and feathers just by themselves, so when they're mixed together in such gorgeous creations I get a little giddy. Aren't they beautiful? Especially the studded heels top right and the over-the-top feather embellished boots bottom right. I think I might be overdosing on shoes.

Diane Kruger in Vogue Italia

Diane Kruger is featured in a 20 page spread in the March edition of Vogue Italia. The ex-model always looks stunning, but this spread photographed by Mark Seliger is a particular favourite. The 1920's starlet hair, the romantic gothic stylings, dramatic theatre setting and etheral and slightly elfish poses make for truly gorgeous photographs.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you all have a relaxing few days and enjoy your time with family, friends and chocolate bunnies.

From Russia With Love...

First, I'm very sorry for the cheesy Bond reference. Second, how amazing does Dasha Zhukova (top left and bottom right) look? The new Pop editor is wearing a gorgeous Rodarte Spring 09 creation at the opening of the David Lynch (be thankful I made no Twin Peaks reference) and Christian Louboutin photography and shoe exhibition in Moscow. Julia Restoin-Roitfeld was also there, killing it again in another vibrant jewel coloured Balmain wrap dress.
