Fly Away Get Lost And Never Be Found

Alber Elbaz manages to achieve something very few designers are able to accomplish, which is to design for women. Not their model counterparts, but women with breasts and hips, all gorgeous and perfectly flawed. Lanvin's Spring/Summer RTW 2010 collection is a testament to Elbaz genius, an array of bright jewel tones and soft spring hues in draped, structured and ruffled creations. All the looks are perfect, elegant and sexy and so insanely covetable that if wasn't for the hefty price tag and my lack of funds I would buy the whole collection.

But It's Not Going To Stop

There are two things I adore about the new Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign. One, there is no Madonna and two, Lara Stone looks stunning. Sure, the concept treads well worn ground, but the whole hippie luxe vibe is lust worthy and very, very well achieved.

It's A Luscious Mix Of Words And Tricks

Miroslava Duma is a girl after my own heart, nearly always seen wearing the most divine collection of dresses and skirts. The fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar Russia always looks so effortlessly elegant, it's hard to believe she's only 25.

And Lost My Heart Instead

If you haven't seen it already, check out this gorgeous photo taken by Scott Schuman of The Satorialist. Now this is true style. In what we would normally consider restrictive clothing, she manages to prove that style is not defined by what designer label your wear or what current trend you follow, but comes from the ability to be truly comfortable in yourself. This is what makes fashion so important. Being able to express your individuality through fashion is often underrated, but she shows that even the slightest of variations changes you completely.

You Held The World In Your Arms Tonight

It's nothing revolutionary, but Rachel Roy's Pre-Fall 2010 collection was lovely none-the-less. I particularly like the draped metallic dress, not to mention those shoes! Lust worthy.

All The Stars Were Crashing Down As I Laid Eyes On What I Found

As the year draws to a close, the majority of fashion magazines have been reflecting of the fashion hits and misses of 2009. What worked, what didn't, what amazed us (Dion Lee's debut collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week) and what didn't (Lindsay Lohan being named "artistic advisor" at Emanuel Ungaro). It was Kristie Clements (Vogue Australia) editor's letter that eloquently captured that past year in the fashion world. Below are a few excerpts.
  • Knock-offs Can Turn a Good Trend Bad

Take the extended Balmain shoulder as a case in point; copied at Rosemount Australia Fashion Week a mere six weeks after the Balmain autumn/winter show in Paris. While we expect high street chains to copy styles, it's another thing entirely when those who are supposed to be designers do it.

  • Designer Fashion Collections by People Who Are Not Designers

The consumer sees right through it. It's crazy that someone as talented as Christian Lacroix should be in financial woe, while the once venerable house of Emanuel Ungaro hires Lindsay Lohan as "artistic advisor". There's nothing creative, or long-lasting about hype.

While I believe that appropriation is an inevitable part of the design process (think the renewal of 80's power shoulders), I completely agree with Clements that such blatant copying is not only lazy, but lacks imagination. I loved the Camilla & Marc spring/summer collection, but it was disappointing that the Balmain influence was so evident in their designs. What do you think?

Too Much, Too Young

From my favourite Spring/Summer 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection, John Galliano's creation of the film nior femme fatale was simply perfect. I'm still dreaming of Dior.

And When He's Stealing Clothes From Marks And Sparks

How beautiful and romantic is the autumn palette, especially the aqua tones, seen at the Calvin Klein Pre-Fall 2010 collection? Oh so perfect.

I Didn't Know Your Name

I am exclusively a dress and skirt kind of girl. I do not own one pair of pants (besides my oversized boy pyjama pants, but they don't count), no jeans, no shorts, nothing with a pair of legs (tights excluded). That's not to say I don't love seeing people in slim leg denim or a pair of vibrant coral harem pants, it's just that none of the aforementioned styles suit me. That is why the majority of my posts tend involve dresses (maxi, mini, body-con, jersey, strapless, backless etc) and is why the Thakoon Pre-Fall 2010 collection makes me a little giddy. Perfectly draped graphic print dresses with tassel detail? Oh my. They are now number one on my wish list.

It's Like Forgetting The Words To Your Favourite Song

I'm so impressed with the new Diane Von Furstenburg Pre-Fall 2010 collection. It is all very lost little rich girl mixed with festival groupie and a little bit of the avant-garde socialite thrown in. Personally I'm coveting the hot pink leather gloves and the slouchy, deconstructed jackets in autumn plaid. Not mention the little touches glamour from the lust worthy metallic accessories.

You Make Me Feel Like I Am Home Again

I've been thinking about my previous post and I realised one of the things I love most about blogging (apart from spending hours upon hours devouring fashion magazines, etc, all in the name of research), is that I have become more uninhibited with my fashion choices. That's not to say that I'll be wearing a Iekeliene Stange-like creation anytime soon, but it has inspired me to be more creative, less cautious and a little more courageous. It has also helped me realise that I could care less if my fashion choices don't conform to current trends, especially when I see fellow bloggers is truly awe inspiring outfits. Having other bloggers dress in their unique and fantastic style is, quite possibly, the best reminder that true style is always created by the individual.

Today's Inspiration - Iekeliene Stange

I have debated for awhile whether or not to post about Dutch model and burgeoning photographer Iekeliene Stange. On the one hand, I admire her eclectic style, the crazy mix of colour, pattern and fabric. On the other hand, I can't picture ever wearing any of the above outfits myself. There are too many layers, too many colours and though she pulls if all off impeccably, the former factors kind of put me off. So why have I called her an inspiration? Because she has courage to wear what she loves, regardless of other peoples opinion. It encourages me ignore the strange stares next time I wear a crazy headband or large feathered cuff. Iekeliene rocks.

Stealing Hearts Was Your Past Time

When it comes to accessories I'm a big believer that more is definitely best. My wrists are usually stacked with endless bracelets, which is probably why I love these pictures so much. I especially enamoured with the last picture, the masculine silver watch, black lacquered studded bracelets and most importantly the large and gorgeous cuff. It's inspired me to mix silver and black for a kind of sexy, kind of glamours, completely covetable look.

Oh Yeah, I'll Tell You Something

These pieces by Eddie Borgo remind me of very sexy and very dangerous armour. Yum.

Maybe I'd Give You My World

Adore the effortlessly sexy and innately cool rock chic aesthetic seen at new Australian label Friend of Mine. Especially coveting the pieces in neon block colours and the fitted bandage dresses with strategically placed cutaways.

One Morning, One Morning, One Morning In May

This is Harry, the new edition to our ever expanding collection of adopted animals. He is a 10 year old Kelpie cross, an old farm dog abandoned in the pines and left to starve for three weeks. My father was lucky to be working near by and found him with his paws caught in a rabbit trap. We adopted him after his owner failed to come forward and since then his paws have healed and he has gained much needed weight. Harry is a true gentleman, good natured, loving and blissfully happy to sit with you while you scratch behind his ears. He might not be Dior, but in my opinion he is much, much better. Hope you think he is as gorgeous as I do.

We Are Always Running For The Thrill Of It

It's Spring here in Australia, meaning short skirts and sunscreen. It also means wearing fur (faux 0f course) is less than a brilliant idea. However, it doesn't stop me from shamelessly lusting after well worn leather bomber jackets with fur trim, soft ivory fur stoles and chocolate brown vests. Add studded accessories and higher than higher boots and I'll die happy. For once I'm cursing Australia's perfect weather!

You Must Have Seen Her Dancing in the Sand

When I grow up I want to as stylish as Christina Centenera, fashion editor and stylist for Harper's Bazaar Australia. Yves Saint Laurent 'Tribute' heels, Balmain jackets and gorgeous dresses by Josh Goot... what more could a girl want?
